Active eBook Compiler is pretty popular mainly because of the low cost factor. For a small investment of $29.95, you get not only an eBook compiler but also a branding software which helps you create viral eBooks. There is also a multimedia option which you can buy as a separate ad-on to this software (I think it costs $49.95). 

 

Pros : Includes branding software so you can create brandible eBooks and offer them for distribution to your website members and affiliates.  Can save eBook Projects so that if you want to make minor changes in the future, it can be done in a jiffy.  Can disable print and copy functions in the eBook to protect your content.  Can password protect selected pages so you can create trial eBooks where the user can get access to the other pages only after paying you.  Can set the eBook to expire after selected time period so you can create shareware eBooks with this option.  Offers up to 1000 unique passwords per eBook so there is less chance of your passwords being passed around.      Cons : Interface is not so newbie-friendly, so gets a little while to get used to.   Extracts files to temp directory so files can be easily copied. In the newer versions, HTML files are extracted in scrambled format, but graphics and Flash files are not. As long as the eBook is open, all the project files can be viewed from the temp directory.  Requires a bit of technical know-how if you want to incorporate the 1000 passwords to your eBook.
