Table 1 gives details of the rating of the teachers about the importance of writing skill for learners during and after school years.  As the table shows, teachers consider it more important during schooling than in later years.  Thus 78% rate writing skill as ‘very important’ for secondary school pupils, while only 42% consider it ‘very important’ later in life.  But 56% of the teachers consider writing skill as ‘important’ later in life and only 2% of the teachers rate ‘indifferent’.  This shows on the whole, teachers feel the need for teaching writing because they consider it as important for the learners.
